RAW 12/20/2010

A "Mizmas Carol" and a Whole Lot of Other WTF moments

Photo from WWE.com

First of all, let me say that RAW was very unusual last night. Maybe it was the bizarre opening segment with Alex Reilly and Michael Cole dressed up as "A Christmas Carol" characters followed by an image of "The Miz Girl" with a superimposed moving mouth. Maybe it was the absence of Nexus. Maybe it was the John Cena/Jerry Lawler show that saw them cracking fat jokes aimed at Vickie Guerrero. Whatever the case, it was an unusual though entertaining night.

The Good:
  • "I BEAT RANDY ORTON!" You know, I've never really liked The Miz, but ever since he took the title from Randy a few weeks ago he's started to grow on me in a way. It was funny to me (for some reason...) that while Cole was announcing the six man tag match (including Orton of course) that would come later on, Miz was inaudibly shouting "I BEAT RANDY ORTON! I'M THE CHAMPION!" Too true, buddy. But now you'll have to face him until you lose the title.
  • Energetic Crowd
  • The Santino/Tamina Saga continues. I love this odd couple and I enjoy seeing both wrestle. Too bad there was an absence of Kozlov tonight...Oh, and it was pretty funny when Maryse made Santino do the Cobra to himself.
  • Daniel Bryan vs. William Regal I was surprised to see Regal at all. They hardly give the guy a chance to wrestle anymore. Anyway, the match was very interesting to watch. A variation of style is always welcome, especially when  it's done well.
  • John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler While one would expect that Ziggler would get pwned in under three minutes the match carried on for some time. The mark of a good match is one that can be lengthy and still enjoyable and this was one such example.
  • CM Punk G'ingTFO And so the Cena/Punk feud begins! I rather liked the slow lead in over the past couple of weeks, first with the diet coke incident and tonight with Punk's general disapproval of Cena's actions against Wade Barrett at the PPV. Then, just when the crowd goes wild over Cena's victory over Dolph Ziggler, CM Punk appears with a steel chair to the gut. Well played, sir. This was followed by an interview with Josh Matthews outside the arena where he calmly explained himself, got in a car and left the building.
  • The Miz's Belt Lust The way he fondles the belt is silly yet oh so funny.
The Bad
  • No Nexus? WTF?! Perhaps it was silly of me to assume that there would be some sort of rebuttal from Mr. Barrett but when I kept expecting it and it never came it was a real let down. With the absence of Nexus there seemed to be no real tension over the course of the night. Come on, it's not over yet, is it? It can't be...
  • Daniel Bryan and the Bellas How long are they going to play on this "Daniel Bryan: Ladies Man" thing? Let the man wrestle! That's all that's needed.
  • Morrison still beating Sheamus Is it just me or does anybody else find JoMo beating Sheamus a laughable fantasy. It's Sheamus! He's not supposed to be beaten by some flip kicking, parkour-ing, rock'n'roll Jesus look alike! Am I taking crazy pills here?
Because it is "WWE week" on USA, Smackdown will be tonight. I'm anxious to see what happens in this Handicap match between Cena and Ziggler/Vickie. Should make for some amusing moments.

MONUMENTAL FIRST EVER POST!

Okay, so not really monumental per se...

Mission Statement:

In the remainder of this year as well as the years to come, I expect to watch wrestling (feverishly, as always) and provide my two cents for you fine people to enjoy. I am not an expert on the subject of wrestling, and therefore will not be providing any expert reviews and/or critiques on the events of Monday Night RAW or Friday Night Smackdown. I will however submit my opinions, which may or may not be taken seriously by you, the reader. Being female, I will try not to gush over how physically attractive some of the superstars are (ahem...Wade Barrett...) and will try to remain as professional as a non-professional can be.

That being said, TLC (that's Tables Ladders and Chairs for those of you who are just tuning in) takes place tonight. The "Superstar of the Day" and "Daily Diva" are these two:

Foreshadowing perhaps? I think so, at least in behalf of the diva's match. For the record, here are my predictions (winners in red, of course):

WWE Champion The Miz vs. Randy Orton (tables match)
World Heavyweight Champion Kane vs. Edge vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio (TLC Match)
John Cena vs. Wade Barrett (Chairs Match)
Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger (Triple Threat Ladder Match)
John Morrison vs. Sheamus (Ladder Match)
Divas Champion Natalya & Beth Phoenix vs. Team Lay-Cool (Divas Tag Team Tables Match)

I suppose we'll see how it all turns out. Until tomorrow, this is heelappeal signing off.
